GALIA GLUCKMAN

(b. 1973, Tel Aviv, Israel)

Galia Gluckman produces large-scale multi-faceted artworks in her medium of choice: pigment ink on cotton paper and collage. Reflecting varied contemporary concerns, Gluckman highlights ongoing creative and social conversations through her exploration of atmospheric and emotive themes. Wide-ranging in their hybrid of environmental and social references, they draw upon contemporary notions of the passage of time, referencing the mixture of creative subcultures that ebb and flow through the limitless global community. The viewer is invited to consider the dialogue surrounding mass production versus the handcrafted and oscillate between an abstraction of nature and epic man-made habitats.

Born in 1973, Gluckman first qualified as a fashion designer, operating in London and New York before returning to Fine Art. Having relocated to Cape Town in 2010, Gluckman has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions both locally and internationally. Most recently in group shows in London, Everard Read and Cape Town Art Fair earlier this year.   Galia had a solo presentation at the Jewish Museum in Cape Town in 2013, Epidermis at Florentin 45, and Pixels at the Artist House both in Tel   Aviv in 2014 and presentations at the Cape Town Art Fair in 2013- 2018. Her forthcoming show marks Gluckman's second presentation with Everard Read Cape Town and her first ever within the CIRCA Cape Town space, that was launched in November 2016. Her debut solo at Everard Read /CIRCA Johannesburg will open in the latter half of 2018,

Within the artists' journey from order to disorder [or vice versa], one can sense a deep spirited investigation. Considering notions of self-reflection and meditation, Gluckman's practice illustrates a poignant vision of cellular memory, passion and what it means to be human'.

Through the use of various visual references, colour and complex artistic detail, there is an arranging of a dazzling alchemy of contrasting colours and frequencies. This sharp eye attention to detail evokes sensations of both pure abstraction and a unique artistic vision of the world around us.

Gluckman's work has been featured in various Design and Art publications including Art South Africa, VISI, Elle Decoration, House and Leisure, House and Garden, as well as the Art Business News and Architectural Digest in the USA. Having showcased artworks in solo exhibitions both locally and overseas, she is represented in many private and corporate collections in Australia, Dubai, Israel, South Africa Spain, the United Kingdom and USA. In South Africa this includes the Leeu Collection Franschhoek, M & C SAATCHI ABEL Collection, Rupert Collection,  South African Presidential Collection and The Spier Arts Collection.
