ARP - ART RESIDENCY PROJECT
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The ARP-Art Residency Project, launched in 2009 by the no profit cultural association CENTRO LUIGI DI SARRO from Rome, Italy, has grown over the years offering to the participants a 45 days artistic residency plus an exhibition at the end of the experience, as a swop between two countries. In the project are involved two artists, one assistent curator, one film maker and two photographers: all of them have the opportunity of a 'professional test ' working to realize, within the project, a final catalogue and a video documentary. The initiative is aimed at artists, scholars and students who have not reached 35 years of age, with the goal of providing an opportunity for cultural and human exchange in the delicate moment of consolidation of their professional role.
The 2015-2017 edition involves for the fifth time South Africa, and in particular the cities of Rome and Cape Town. The training project, which involves several activities with the hosting country, is designed according to the characteristics of each participant that will be supported by a Tutor of the Centro Di Sarro, which acts as supervisor and cultural mediator.
After the collaboration with Erdmann Contemporary and SMAC, for the next two years Centro Luigi Di Sarro will collaborate with Everard Read gallery in Cape Town.
The selection for 2015-2017 edition will award Zwelethu Machepha (Johannesburg, RSA) and Valentina Colella (Sulmona, Italy)
The experience in Italy, to the south african artist will be offered a various programme of activities, contacts with Academies of Fine Arts and the main places of artistic experimentation in the territory. The same will happen in South Africa where the Italian artist will have a 45days program of meeting, workshop and art experiences.
