PRESS RELEASE
ATANG TSHIKARE: Pula e ya na
May 8 – Jun 5, 2024
Everard Read Cape Town is pleased to present Pula e ya na, a solo exhibiton by Atang Tshikare.
Step into a realm where art and storytelling collide in the exhibition 'Pula e ya na' by Atang Tshikare.
As the second installment of the ‘Peo e Atang’ trilogy, 'Pula e ya na' is a multidisciplinary showcase featuring sculptures laden with narratives, complemented on the opening night with a live performance by the iconic Morena Leraba.
Atang offers a contemporary exploration of African identity infused with elements of ancestral wisdom and spiritual reflection. This exhibition is a testament to the power of storytelling as a means of connecting past, present, and future in a tapestry of colourful dreams and cultural heritage.
The body of work is also a heartfelt tribute to Atang's second-born son, Pula Khanya, whose names symbolise 'falling rain and light,' ushering in a sense of growth, abundance, and renewal. “Ho kokosa ('to lift up' or ‘raise up’) is a profound aspiration I hold for everyone, particularly children,” says the artist.
Opening reception: Wednesday 8th May - 6pm including a performance by Morena Leraba
