BIOGRAPHY

JOP KUNNEKE

(b. 1974, South Africa)

Jop Kunneke holds a National Higher Diploma (Fine Art) from the Technikon Pretoria, now Tshwane University of Technology. Kunneke explains that he uses tongue-in-cheek humour to take a satirical look at our collective narcissistic greed and the driving forces behind it. His main point of reference is contemporary popular culture, street and skin art. He is a fine sculptor in bronze, and also excels at charcoal sketching and oil painting. He delights in surprising elements like gilded glam veneers, stencils interacting with gold-leaf, reworked digital imagery, graphic novel-style canvasses and eye-catching aluminium-cast heads on psychedelic pop backgrounds. Kunneke’s work forms part of private collections in South Africa as well as  London, Amsterdam, Rome in Europe and New York City, USA.
